Tables that tell a story - How Asia and Europe are setting new design standards

What connects a luxury hotel with a view of Victoria Harbour, an urban café opposite Gare de Lyon and designer furniture inspired by a tranquil mountain lake? It is the lava stone that appears in all these worlds not just as a material, but as an experience. In collaboration with international design studios, Pyrolave Suisse shows how lava can be used to create table surfaces that are more than just functional objects - they are an expression of attitude, style and craftsmanship.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong - Lavish with harbour view

Few hotels embody Asian luxury as consistently as the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong. 500 rooms, ten restaurants, views of Victoria Harbour - and now also: lava stone tables from Volvic. As part of the comprehensive redesign by the award-winning Studio BAR, the Grand Café, the centrepiece of the hotel since 1989, has been transformed into an open, scenic space concept.

In the middle of it all: 48 individually manufactured table tops made of enamelled lava in the colours "Ivoire" and "Tilleul". Round and angular shapes alternate, inspired by the diversity of Asian nature and markets. The choice of colour - a reference to bamboo forests and tranquil woodlands around Hong Kong. The design - uncompromisingly robust, food-safe, a statement for the highest design standards.

This transforms a café area into a place of staging - with lava stone as the connecting element between history, space and enjoyment.

Aux Cadrans Paris - Lava stone in rosé

Opposite the Gare de Lyon, a typical Parisian bistro has been transformed into a green oasis. The name: Aux Cadrans. The concept: urban jungle with character. Designed by Studio Emma Roux, the space combines floral elements, tropical aesthetics and vibrant colours - including two that immediately catch the eye: "Emeraude" and a specially developed "Rose" - the latter created especially for this project in Pyrolave's studio.

27 table tops, handmade, enamelled in several stages, framed in the finest brass - this is more than just design. It is function with elegance, substance with emotion. Especially in highly frequented catering establishments like this one, it is crucial that tables not only look good, but are also durable. The lava tops from Pyrolave Suisse do just that - and fit seamlessly into an interior that is bursting with energy.

Mountain lake - when nature becomes a design icon

Sometimes a design story begins with a landscape. This was the case with the "Bergsee" table series, which arose from an encounter at Architect@Work in Berlin. Two young designers from DEUTSU (Munich) met Pyrolave there - and an idea was born: a piece of furniture that combines the tranquillity of an alpine lake with the power of lava stone.

The shape: soft, meditative, Nordic. The materials: enamelled lava top from Pyrolave combined with an organically curved wooden structure made of oak or walnut. Each table is precisely manufactured, customised down to the millimetre - so that lava and wood merge in perfect harmony. The colours? Available from the collection or completely customised. So every table is unique.

"Bergsee" is not an off-the-peg product. It is an object that creates space - and tranquillity.
