Fire as a stage
A room that tells of the element of fire. Bar 1.7 in Zurich stages the open-plan kitchen concept in front of a large-format projection of blazing flames. Warmth, light and movement become part of the experience. The central counter carries the centrepiece of the material, enamelled lava stones from Pyrolave.
Glaze with depth and lustre
The lava stone bar counter is glazed in a rich red colour reminiscent of glowing coals. The typical craquelé pattern that is created when Pyrolave is enamelled gives the surface depth and vibrancy. Depending on the incidence of light, the glazes look different: sometimes deep and dark, sometimes warm and luminous. Each plate is unique, made from lava from the Nugère crater in Volvic, enamelled by hand and fired at high temperatures. The result is a surface that has a unique visual and tactile feel.
Consistency for everyday life in a bar
A bar counter is used intensively every day. Glasses, plates, heat, moisture - all this quickly leaves its mark on less robust materials. Pyrolave lava stone is made to withstand such stresses. The enamelled lava is heat, frost and acid resistant. It is insensitive to red wine, citrus fruits or hot pots. These properties make it an ideal material for catering, hotels and places with high footfall. In the 1Komma7 bar, the cover remains permanently attractive and functional.
Material in dialogue with the space
The vibrant red of the lava cover contrasts with the black wall surfaces, metallic elements and the warm wood of the guest table. This combination of materials creates tension and harmony at the same time. The design always draws the eye back to the central counter. There, the lava cover becomes a stage for glasses, plates, bottles and the craftsmanship behind the bar. This creates a space in which material and function intertwine.
Design and realisation
The architectural design of the 1Komma7 Bar was created by Gigon Guyer Architekten. They created the spatial structure that draws the eye to the fire and gives the bar a central role. The interior design, furnishings and styling come from Atelier Zürich. With a keen sense of proportions, material combinations and colour effects, they created a place where every detail contributes to the overall experience.
Pyrolave in architecture
Pyrolave is a brand that specialises in the processing and enamelling of lava stone. The stone comes from a volcanic source in France and is precisely handcrafted into slabs, washbasins, kitchen tops and counters. The special thing about Pyrolave is the combination of the natural durability of the lava stone and the individual design options offered by glaze colours. This strength is visible in the 1Komma7 Bar, where the enamelled lava is both a functional working material and a central design element.
An element that remains
In the 1Komma7 Bar, the lava cover from Pyrolave is not just a work surface. It is part of the staging. It stands for durability, precision craftsmanship and a material quality that will retain its beauty for years to come. Guests who take a seat here feel that this element is here to stay. It is an expression of an attitude that emphasises quality, durability and the interplay of function and aesthetics.
